All Flags of the World

How to use the complete flag index

This index is the fastest route when you already know the place you are looking for. It contains the current geographic flag records bundled with the site and labels the entity type so countries, territories, dependencies, U.S. states and regional or constituent areas are not mixed under one generic “country” heading.

Use the search field to narrow the grid by name. If you only remember what the flag looks like, switch to the colour index, design families or symbol groups. Those routes are built from the same records, so a correction to a flag can propagate to the index, comparison tool and relevant browse pages together.

Why current and historical flags are separated

A historical national flag can still be culturally important, but showing it beside a current flag without a status label creates confusion. The same applies to political movements, organisations and identity flags. Those designs live in the historical and non-national library, where their category and reuse context can be described without implying current state status.

What to check on a flag page

For identification, start with the image, ratio and design description. For reproduction, check the stored palette and construction details. For meaning, read the symbol and colour notes attached to that specific record rather than assuming a colour has one universal interpretation. For dates or status, use the adoption and entity fields and consult the site’s source and correction policy when a record needs verification.
