Compare Two Flags
Select two different flags to compare them. This is a detailed comparison that provides all major differences between the flags and their colors. This feature also contains an option to see only the differences, which can be found below the flags.

How the comparison works?
Choose a flag in each of the two selectors and the table rebuilds itself immediately. Nothing is precomputed and no pair has its own page, so every one of the roughly forty-nine thousand possible combinations works the same way and is available straight away.
The table runs to somewhere between twenty-five and thirty-five rows, depending on how much is documented for the two flags involved. It covers the flag itself — proportions, shape, colour count, palette, design family, adoption date, first use, designer, symbolism — and then the two countries behind them, including capital, region, currency, languages, area, population and ISO codes.
- 🔍 Show differences only hides every row where the two flags agree, which is the fastest way to see what actually separates a near-identical pair.
- 🔄 Swap reverses the two columns without reloading anything.
- 🎲 Random pair picks two flags at chance, which is a surprisingly good way to learn the collection.
What the comparison will not tell you?
The table reports what is recorded for each flag. It does not infer a shared history from a shared appearance.
Two flags that look alike may be related — Venezuela, Colombia and Ecuador all descend from Gran Colombia — or the resemblance may be pure coincidence, as with Ireland and Côte d’Ivoire.
Where a documented connection exists it appears in the symbolism or history rows of the individual flag pages; where it does not, the comparison stays silent rather than inventing one.
Pairs worth comparing
- 🇹🇩 Chad and Romania — the closest pair of national flags in the world, separated in principle by the shade of blue and in practice by very little.
- 🇮🇩 Indonesia and Monaco — an identical red-over-white design distinguished only by proportion.
- 🇮🇪 Ireland and Côte d’Ivoire — the same three colours in the opposite order, adopted independently.
- 🇳🇱 Netherlands and Luxembourg — the same tricolour with a lighter blue and a longer shape.
- 🇦🇺 Australia and New Zealand — both Blue Ensigns with the Southern Cross, drawn differently.
- 🇳🇴 Norway and Iceland — the same Nordic cross with two colours exchanged.
- 🇸🇳 Senegal and Mali — identical but for a single green star.
- 🇶🇦 Qatar and Bahrain — the same serrated division, in different colours and with a different number of points.
